TK-3E Eddy Current System Calibrator
The calibrator is a portable instrument commonly known as a "swing frequency signal generator", used for static and dynamic calibration of eddy current probes. Static verification is completed through an additional micrometer; Dynamic verification is achieved through a special rotating "tilting disk" that simulates dynamic mechanical vibration. Due to years of improved sensor functionality and stricter performance standards, the system is unable to provide the necessary accuracy for sensor system calibration according to the API670 standard.
The TK-3E calibrator simulates shaft vibration and displacement to calibrate the monitor. It verifies the working status of the monitor reading device and the status of the eddy current sensor system. A correct calibration system means reading and sensor input. A spindle micrometer is used to inspect the sensor system and calibrate the displacement monitor. The probe installation joint provided with TK-3E fixes the probe, while the measured target surface moves towards or away from the end of the probe in calibrated increments. The output of the proximitor is recorded by a voltmeter.
The vibration monitor is calibrated using a motor driven tilting disc. There is a rocker arm holder on the disc that holds the eddy current probe in place. By adjusting the retainer and probe to the appropriate position, the mechanical vibration magnitude can reach the expected value. The mechanical vibration is measured by a dial micrometer in the calibration device (without the need for an oscilloscope).
The reading of the vibration monitor can be compared with the known mechanical vibration signal output (i.e. the reading measured by the dial gauge). The mechanical vibration signal measured by TK-3E ranges from 50 to 254 μ M (2 to 10 mils) peak to peak.
